Hardware
Last updated on November 22, 2009
This is the hardware that encompasses most of what I use on a daily basis. I try to keep my setup as minimal and as clean as possible. I am a Mac person and have been since 2001.
My Setup
| MacBook Pro - apple.com |
|
| my computer of choice | |
| The MacBook Pro is hands down the best laptop out there. It's extremely powerful and allows me to do all the high end stuff that I do on a daily basis. I use the newest rev of the 15" MBP as both my personal and work machine which makes it much easier as I don't have to deal with syncing between multiple machines. | |
| iPhone 3GS - apple.com |
|
| my phone of choice | |
| The iPhone 3GS is not just a fun toy anymore. I find myself being able to get more and more serious work done on this mobile computer. The 3 megapixel camera in the device has also replaced my point and shoot as my camera of choice. I can't wait to see what future hardware revs bring! | |
| WD Hard Drives - wdc.com |
|
| my storage media of choice | |
| I create a fair amount of data and I've been a WD fan for a while. I found that their raw drives as well as their externals are the most reliable. | |
| Apple 24" LED Display - apple.com |
|
| my monitor of choice | |
| I have a 30" Dell at work and the new Apple 24" display at home. This is hands down the most beautiful display I have ever use. The Magsafe connector integration is also extremely useful as well. | |
| Apple Wireless Keyboard - apple.com |
|
| my keyboard of choice | |
| Although I wasn't a fan of the chiclet keys at first, I have grown to really like them. This keyboard is great because the footprint is really small and it's keys are also consistent with my MacBook Pro's internal keyboard. | |
| Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse - apple.com |
|
| my mouse of choice | |
| I was a longtime Logitech mouse person but recently switched to this. I know many people despise this mouse but I actually really enjoy it. Although it doesn't quite give me as much of the functionality as other mice might, it is bluetooth based so I no longer have to deal with the drive issues that made using Logitech mice such a pain. | |
| Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II - harmankardon.com |
|
| my computer speakers of choice | |
| I listen to at least 10+ hours of music a day while at my computer so having decent sound is pretty important. I've had these speakers for a while and couldn't be happier. If not using these, I'm a big fan of my Sennheiser headphones. | |
| Griffin Elevator - griffintechnology.com |
|
| my laptop stand of choice | |
| I don't use a desktop machine and haven't used one for years. I connect to external monitors at home and at work so using Griffin's Elevator laptop stand is key. I couldn't live without it. | |
| SnowBall - bluemic.com |
|
| my usb mic of choice | |
| When recording screencasts, podcasts or anything else that requires a little bit more than my internal mic can offer I use this. I've been using it for a couple years and am really happy with the audio quality it delivers for a lower-end USB mic. | |
| MiFi - novatelwireless.com |
|
| mobile hotspot | |
| This is a must have gadget. When I'm on the road, I can't afford to be offline. This mobile hotspot uses Verizon's 3G network to ensure that I'm always connected wherever I am. Although it's a little pricey, it is definitely worth the peace of mind. |
