    The Next Web’s Weekly Recap: Battle Over Mobile, Facebook Turns 6 and Twitter Attack

    This is my Weekly Recap for The Next Web that was originally published on February 7, 2010.  

    This week saw a couple of big deals involving Monster and Yahoo as well as UStream. It also saw the battle over mobile heat up. Android's platform is gaining features and more phones. The big question mark in the space, Microsoft, appears to be poised to release a mobile phone soon. This week also saw Facebook turn 6 and get an improved UI. Meanwhile, Twitter added a key new feature to their web interface.

    The Next Web's Weekly Recap: Twitter Features, Apple Event and Google in China

    This week saw a bunch of Twitter news including the launch of a new Suggested User List as well as local based trends. They also announced an upcoming feature to claim dormant usernames. All wasn't good for Twitter as disappointing December growth rates were released. Also in the news was Apple after the long awaited Tablet announcement was officially scheduled for this coming Wednesday the 27th. The Google China drama also continued this week as the US Government stepped in.

    Overview

    Perhaps the lenses with which I see the Internet world are somewhat biased towards Google as a heavy Google user but I couldn't help but have this week's recap be all about Google. Google dominated the headlines this week with the announcement of Google Public DNS, the release of a new tool to assist sites in implementing paywalls, a new homepage design and the dropping of Gears in favor of HTML5. Not to mention the release of the 2009 Year-End Google Zeitgeist that seems to always make me question the prospects of humanity.

    Overview
    This week's news was headlined by the debate over in-tweet advertising on Twitter. After Twitter COO announced that their ad platform would be unveiled soon, many argued over the viability of the in-tweet advertising model. The other big news of the week was Google continuing their shopping spree by buying display ad company Teracent.
